Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu, India

Kanya Kumari is located southernmost part of the state of Tamilnadu in India. The place is surrounded by majestic hills and the plains bordered by colorful sea-shores, fringed with coconut trees and paddy fields.
Kanya Kumari is known for pilgrimage and 'Pitra Tarpan', a rite performed by Hindus after death of their deceased family member. Of late it has become a tourist attraction and a lot of domestic as well as foreign tourists visit this place.
The beach sands here are multi-coloured.

By Air: Nearest Airport is Trivandrum and is 67 km away.

By Rail: Kanyakumari is well connected to major cities of India by Indian railways.

By Road: Kanyakumari is well connected to major cities of India by National and State Highways.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial
The place has been associated with great men like Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi in whose names beautiful memorials have been her and add to the attraction of this place.

Thiruvalluvar Statue

Thiruvalluvar is the immortal poet of Tanilnadu. The pedestal of the statue is of 38 feet height and the statue over it is 95 feet tall. The three tier pedestal known as Atharapeedam is surrounded by an artistic Mandapa known as Alankara Mandapam with 38 feet height. Surrounding the Alankara Mandapa stand 10 elephant statues signifying 8 directions with earth and space down.
To help the tourists to worship the holy feet of Thiruvalluvar 140 steps are constructed inside Mandapa

Kamarajar Manimandapam
Another monument Kamarajar Manimandapam was raised and dedicated to Late Sri Kamarajar, the freedom fighter, former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and President of Indian National Congress. He was popularly known as black Gandhi among the masses.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial

Vivekananda Rock Memorial is another place which attracts large number of tourists.
The memorial consists of two main structures, viz. (1) Vivekananada Mandapam and (2) Shripada Mandapam
You have travel by ferry to reach here. Ferry charges are Rs. 34 per Adult and Rs. 17 for students.

Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrise can be seen in Kanyakumari through out the year at Bay of Bengal. Sunset can be seen from View Tower through out the year except the months of June, July and August.

Government Museum
The Government Museum, situated on the Beach Road offers a good collection of sculptured artifacts and crafts of South Indian Temples and is one of the “Must See” places in Kanyakumari.

Entrance Fee  : Rs. 5/- for Adults and Rs. 3/- for Chidren. Foreigner Rs.100/-

Guganathaswamy Temple
This temple is 1000 year old and is said to have been built by the King Raja Raja Chola. There are 16 inscriptions found in this temple that date back to the years 1038 A.D.,1044 A.D. and 1045 A.D.
